Tasting notes
FINE+RARE, Apr 2025

This is one of the first whites our team tasted this year and we were blown away by it – especially considering the price. A blend of 75% Semillon, 13% Sauvignon Blanc and 12% Sauvignon Gris, there’s a hint of box hedge, but beneath that lies honeysuckle and juicy peach. There’s a lovely waxy weight to the palate, the fruit mouth-wateringly fresh and concentrated, with taut acidity that rushes through the wine’s core, and a twist of salt and honey on the long finish. Truly delicious – and further evidence of white Bordeaux’s brilliant value. Aged in 500-litre casks, with around 15% new oak.

A blend of 75% Sémillon, 13% Sauvignon Blanc and 12% Sauvignon Gris, the 2024 Les Charmes-Godard Blanc reveals aromas of boxwood, pear, flowers and spring blossoms. Medium-bodied, it's round and supple with a lively, juicy mid-palate complemented with somewhat incisive acidity, concluding with a long, ethereal finish.

The 2024 Les Charmes-Godard Blanc is another superb wine from Nicolas Thienpont in a vintage where all the wines are brilliant. A wine of richness and substance, the 2024 very much reflects the record-high level of Sémillon in the blend. Lemon confit, marzipan, white flowers, chalk and a kiss of French oak meld together as the 2024 shows off its inimitable pedigree. Bracing saline notes linger on the impossibly long finish. The 2024 was aged in 500-liter barrels, about 10% new. I can't remember a Charmes Godard that I crave this much. Tasted two times.

Take your time with this one, really does need a moment to open and show the white peach and pear. Leafy, on the steely side, but good quality, with slate scrape, fresh, with density, fragrant spice, apple blossom, white mango juice on the finish, stretches out through the palate. Harvest 18 to 23 September 15% new oak, fermented and aged in 500l casks. Nicolas Thienpont owner. Tasted twice. One to look out for.
