Tasting Notes
Sublimely complex aromas of white flowers and citrus wrapped in a gentle hint of wood spice introduce sappy, powerful, mouth coating and classy flavors of superb density and weight, all wrapped in a finish that delivers simply huge length. This is a big wine yet everything remains perfectly balanced, impeccably focused and at present, the finish is linear, which is unusual for such an imposing effort. In a word, extraordinary Allen Meadows- Burghound 01/07/06

Comparing the 2004 Montrachet against the 2002, the latter is clearly the superior wine. The aromatics feel a little discombobulated at first, with suggestions of TCA or sulphur reduction. But allowing the wine to breathe, my conclusion is that it displays that mulchy, herbaceous element that afflicts so many 2004 Burgundies. The palate is still quite attractive with a fine line of acidity, notes of walnut and smoke, though there is just a touch of greenness marring the finish. This is a perplexing Montrachet that feels a little out of sorts. Tasted September 2013. Oct 2013, www.robertparker.com
